We have our own species in California, and yes, they are intelligent! I would catch flies and feed them to a jumping spider that lives under a windowsill. It remembers me feeding it and is no longer weary of my presence.

Aka "Daring Jumping Spider", Phidippus audax is an audaciously intelligent arachnid often found in the garden and sometimes indoors here in Albuquerque and all over the US. Very attractive, interactive, and amusing. These large jumping spiders have iridescent green chelicerae and are unmistakable.
