Really hate these nasty things. Decimated my large columbine this year. I thought picking them off and drowning them would solve the problem. NOPE! Killed my plant. Luckily it left a million babies behind. Next year if I see them, I rolling out the poison.

I suspect this as the one that absolutely stripped my columbine. On the other hand I have no problem with Columbine Leafminers this year. It could have helped me in that respect. The stripped plants did actually still bloom and set seed.

I was alerted to be on the lookout for these little buggers by Goshsmom in her post to the Ohio River Valley Gardening Forum.
At the time we had never had an issue w/ them.
Two weeks later..... several of our Columbines were skeletons.
We found several of the little munchers and quickly dispatched them.
I've added a picture.
Safers Soap works wonders if you have too many to just pick off the plants.
