Pretty little moth, despite the odd name. The larvae feed upon plants of the rose family, (including apples, pears, peach,and plum) but I've never seen them in great enough numbers to deem them a pest.
Found mostly east of the Mississippi River, but have been noted in Arkansas and Missouri. Prefers the edges of wooded areas, and shrubby places.
There is one generation a year, and they have been found as far north as New Brunswick.
The name is a descriptive of how they look....they do not pick up birds and drop them.
