palmbob

Acton, CA (Zone 8b) | April 2009 | Negative
disgusting creature- not a native to the US but virtually everywhere now.. primarily an attacker of citrus and Pittosporum, but attacks many different tropicals. Feeds on saps of woody stems and branches. This is a hemaphroditic creature, though some males exist (for what reason is unknown). This scale is mobile, though very slow-moving. Starts out looking like a miniature limpet, but eventually forms into a large (for a scale) pillowy organism about 1cm long. So soft they can't easily be moved without damaging them. They stick to branches by a sticky substance.
