Dear Missannie42. Someone at your local state department of agriculture could help you determine if what you really have is zelus renardii. You could catch one and arrange to take it in, or if you were able to get a good close-up picture they might be able to tell you by email. Another good resource would be a local gardening store, especially one that caters to landscapers. Or for that matter, any professional landscaper. They may not know the latin name but could probably tell you whether they think it\'s a \"good\" or \"bad\" bug.
Amateur gardener question for me would be whether you have an insect problem of some other kind. Assassin bugs are all-purpose predators, so if you do not have other bugs causing problems, that might that\'s what you have

This image of assassin bug looks nothing like those on my milkweed in Viera, FL. Is it a different bug?

Please tell me, are these assassin bugs good for my milkweed or not?
