Although the larvae are found beneath the bark of the Black Locust trees, I've never seen this insect in enough numbers to consider it a pest.

The adults are a colorful insect emerging in early fall and feed on goldenrod pollen and nectar.

1/2" to 3/4" long found in woods in the Eastern and Southern US and eastern Canada.
