Found several cinnabar moths in my backyard pasture in south Snohomish county - very pretty! A seemingly good transplant to help reduce tansy ragwort :)

This cool looking "bug" was brought into the Olympia WA area to do just that...eat the Ragwort. For a number of years you could find hundreds of them on one plant, doing their job.

I still find the moths but seldom see the caterpillars.

The Cinnabar Moth caterpillars in the black and yellow striped pyjamas are useful as they feed communally on Ragwort (Senecio jacobaea) which is quite a problem weed in many places. The Ragwort is here in Australia, but no Cinnabar Moths to keep it under control.
