See John C. Abbott's "Dragonflies and Damselflies of Texas and the South-Central United States" for more details. The Bleached Skimmer is unique with its white face and white eyes. It is an uncommon dragonfly in its region, so spotting one depends on location and luck. Look for them around alkaline ponds and lakes, often associated with springs. The Bleached Skimmer is often associated with Flame Skimmers, Desert Whitetails and Eight-spotted Skimmers. A good location is the Bitter Lakes NWR in Chaves County, N.M., near Roswell. Both the Flame Skimmer and Desert Whitetail were photographed on the same day and general location as the posted specimen.
