This is a small and active dragonfly which frequents a range of different habitats from ditches to lakes. The larvae are normally found in still water however. In warm weather it will perch on vegetation, however it differs from related species in that, when the weather is cooler, it may often be seen warming itself on a sunny spot on the ground.
