One year I saw several of these feeding on lilac blossoms at dusk.

This moth does not seem to be present in enough numbers to have a negative impact on plants in my area, so I'll enjoy them and let the caterpillars live. Adults feed on nectar of night-blooming flowers, as do many of their cousins.
