A black butterfly with vibrant turquoise rays and two reddish orange spots on the leading edge of the forewings. Has an orangish head, turquoise stripes on the thorax and white fringe on the forewings and the hindwings. Underneath is black with the double reddish orange spots visible.
South Texas only - somewhat uncommon. Uses only Guava as a larval host. Flies most of the year here. I get several throughout the year and during the brood season I sometimes get four or five freshly eclosed butterflies nectaring on my duranta. I think one of my neighbors must surely have a guava tree!!!
I have since purchased a Guava Tree and they butterflies have been using it as a larval host :o)
