Geophilomorpha
Soil Centipedes
Soil centipedes can live in soil, rotting wood, or other organic material. They can have anywhere from 27 to 191 pairs of legs, one per body segment which is always an odd number. They are carnivorous and eat earthworms, other insects and insect larvae. They do not have eyes, but they do have fangs with venom. They cannot bite humans, making them suitable pets for those interested in insects. The female can lay anywhere from 15 to 60 eggs in one batch and will nurture them until they hatch. She will protect them by licking them, which prevents fungus from destroying the eggs.
