Spirobolida
Spirobolid Millipedes
Spirobolid Millipedes include approximately 500 species and can be found in Africa, Southeast Asia, Australia and North America. Most are long and black with rounded backs but some can be brightly colored or patterned. They live under rocks and leaves but can also be found inside houses. Spirobolid Millipedes are vegetarians that eat decaying plant matter and mostly feed during the day. They roll themselves into a ball when threatened and can live up to 8 years. They do not bite, but can excrete liquid that is very irritating to the skin.
