Highly destructive of gardens and crops. Especially prevalent (literally in swarms) during droughts and in dry, open areas. Spraying and/or treatment for the insect has little effect. Chickens or guineas is the only answer for me.

Very destructive to ornamentals and crops, the Differential Grasshopper has no actual food preference...it's an 'equal oppertunity' destroyer.

It's habitat is any open grasslands, light wooded areas, crop fields and household gardens.

The female lays 8 egg masses, each with up to 11 eggs in a soft soil.
There is one generation a year.
