Brugmansias
Brugmansia is a genus of flowering plants in the family Solanaceae. It is more commonly known as 'angel's trumpets,' so named for the distinctive shape of its flowers. Parts of the Brugmansia can be toxic and it is closely related to Datura, a notorious Medieval poison. It is extinct in the wild but is widely used as an ornamental houseplant and has been naturalized in other parts of the world, including North America. Alkaloids found in the plant have proven medical value and many indigenous South American tribes still use it medicinally, or as a hallucinogen in spiritual rituals.
