Salvias
Salvias are one of nearly 1000 species which are part of the mint family. Salvia species can include annuals, biennials, woody shrubs and perennials. The name Salvia is derived from the Latin word Salvere which means 'To feel well and healthy'. Salvia plants are found in the Americas, the Mediterranean and Asia. Salvia plants flower and produce long spikes of flowers on top of foliage, 18 inches to 5 feet tall. Depending on the variety, Salvia colors vary from blue and purple to red, pink and white. Salvia plants are heat tolerant, easy to care for and some varieties are hardy.
