This bumblebee often nests under stones. The individual in my photograph spent most of the afternoon investigating the stone wall of the house and then crawled under my mother's foot, obviously thinking this was a suitable nook. Then it decided it needed something to eat and, after giving some penstemons a try, settled on the verbena.
