The leaves are 8" long by 2-1/...Read More2" wide; shiny, dark green blade, which is narrowly elliptic to laceolate. The margins are quite wavy and leaves have a very shiny underside. They have a smooth texture, good substance and 4 to 5 vein pairs.
Spidery flowers arrive late August into September, purple except for two areas of white at the petal base. Petals are thin, very thin flower buds on scapes up to 43" high. Fertile.
Until 1990 or thereabouts, Hosta laevigata was unknown. Schmid (1991) reported that the original material was obtained from seed collected out of wild populations growning on islands off the coast of Korea.
