According to their website, Longwood Gardens is the world�...Read More�s premier horticultural display garden. It offers 1,050 acres of gardens, woodlands, and meadows; 20 outdoor gardens; 20 indoor gardens within 4 acres of heated greenhouses; 11,000 different types of plants and spectacular fountains. Located in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania and was created by American industrialist Pierre S. du Pont in the early 20th century. In 1946 the gardens were turned over to a foundation set up by Mr. du Pont; after his death in 1954 Longwood's first director was hired.
Many plant cultivars have been named for Longwood Gardens; this tropical, "platter" water lily is among them.
