The numerous flowers, compacted into a dense head, are orange, and the style of each flower is black, and protrudes a long way from the flower and is sharply doubled back at its outer end giving ir the appearance of a hairpin.
Like all the Banksias, this shrub is extremely attractive to birds and an added bonus is that it flowers during the winter, when little else is in flower.
Seed is hard to extract from the cones, but germinates readily and we have grown them from seed for a local revegetation project. I have not yet planted one in my garden.
