A classic red lily with very uniform foliage and flowers. Absolutely one of my most favorite water lilies because of its beautifully cupp...Read Moreed bloom. It starts out dark pink and cupped and by the fourth day, it is more flattened and a darker magenta color, looks almost like a whole different lily. The leaves are perfectly round with beautiful shades of green, and purple when new. It is also nicely mottled, but very modestly. This lily performs very poorly in warm water, and it seems to perform only when given enough space for its roots to spread, but other than that, it is really easy to grow, and has a very nice flower to leaf ratio.
I guess the only drawback to me for this lily is that it closes rather early, at about 4 pm for me. So those who only have time to enjoy there ponds in the evening will miss out on its spectacular blooms.
