I was just walking around a nature trail in Bloomington, Utah on a warm sunny January day enjoying these wonderful silver/ green evergreen leaves. They where extremely common along the virgin river. I can’t even explain to you how beautiful these plants are, they literally look like a Olive tree/ Rosemary hybrid mixed into one plant. I saw some very large specimens (12 feet +) and I couldn’t believe they where native to Utah. I would say they look pretty exotic and they are such a joy to see in the middle of winter. I am not exactly sure what the complete hardiness of these plants are, as they are native to 7b, 8a, 8b, and 9a portions of Utah. I really want to try one of these out in Salt Lake City a couple hours north in zone 7b to see how they fare. Seeing as they naturally grow in 7b areas of Utah I wouldn’t be surprised if they did just fine in the Salt Lake City area. Overall a PHENOMENAL native plant to the desert Southwest, and a plant that has enormous potential for landscape use as it’s just so dang tough and extremely attractive.
