I just had one living in my yard for a week in late April 2022 in a suburb of Chicago!

Chukar live in the wild all over Northern Nevada. They are beautiful birds. They live in the rock cropping on the side of the mountains. They only fly downhill when flushed out in sort of a glide rather than actually flying. Their chicks are adorable!

The Game and Fish Department released a flock of chukars near our home this past year. We enjoyed their twice daily visits to our yard. They'd come over the hill, down a trail next to our kennel and then proceed to spread around the yard. They were so tame, we could walk between them. While I think most of them were killed by hunters, I still hear a few calling out in the desert. I hope the survivors will pay us a visit next summer.
