Screech owls raised a clutch just outside my window last year, am looking forward to their return this year, i heard the trill just the other night. The nesting parents knew i was present, did not mind at all. the pics of the babies in the nest box where taken thru the screen, as they did their best bob and weave action trying to see if i was there. Three total owlets, first two out look like koala bears!

My brother and sister-in-law live in Georgetown, TX. They have also indicated that the screech owls in their neighborhood are fairly comfortable around humans. And they have enjoyed watching them in the evenings.

This is one of the very few predatory birds that will take to a birdhouse. Our "owl shack" was inhabited within a month or two of putting it up under live oaks in our yard, and produced at least one chick. Although nocturnal hunters, a screech owl will enjoy the afternoon view from "the porch." This provides lots of opportunities for photographs, and the rare opportunity to see a wild owl up close and personal. They are well habituated to human presence, and aren't shy at all.
