Probably unintentionally introduced into Western Australia three or four decades ago, these incredibly colourful, highly gregarious birds have increased in numbers to almost plague proportions in the Perth metropolitan area.

They pose a threat to gentler native birds by bullying them away from food sources and nest sites. They are also a cause of concern for fruit growers because of the potential to damage orchard crops.
