The 'Two Spined Spider' - an immigrant from Australia to New Zealand - is an orb weaving, nocturnal spider first recorded in New Zealand in the early 1970s.
The females are brightly coloured yellow and olive with two dorsal yellow and cream abdominal spines.
Adult males are much smaller, and lack the pair of large abdominal spurs and the bright colours that characterize the adult females.
