This spider-relative cannot bite humans as their chelicerae are too weak to penetrate our skin and they have no venom glands. Unlike spiders, they are omnivorous - eating insects and some plant material. Some consume dead animals. They produce little harm to plants because they consume mostly dying or damaged tissues. Overall, this is a beneficial organism to have in your garden.

Unlike true spiders .. harvestmen have a broad, flat body with a wide attachment between their two body parts - rather than the narrow 'waist' of a spider. Harvestmen only have two eyes.
