A very distinctive black butterfly with yellow forewing tips, red to reddish orange spots along the lower hindwings and four red spots along the body. The underside has the same markings.

This butterfly can be found on overcast days or early in the morning/late in the fternoon as it tends to shy away from directy sunlight.

Extreme south Texas only. Uses Guamuchil tree as a larval host. A local Burger King in the city of Edinburg has a huge Guamuchil which has provided a home for colonies of this butterfly for numerous years. RBPs can usually be seen on that tree and it is a must see for any lepids that come butterflying in the Lower Rio Grande Valley.
