Description: Elongate, dark brown insect; females variable usually brown, sometimes dark green. Thorax with various granulations and tubercles dorsally and laterally, but a rather variable feature in the species, as is size. Male with full-length wings, rather shortened in female, where base of pre-anal part of hind wings has a conspicuous tessellated base; hind wings black and slightly tessellated to a varying degree. In male, wings are uniform brown. Body length: male 91-121mm, female 134-200mm.
Habitat and Distribution Widespread in suitable heath and woodland habitats in New South Wales, southeast Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria. Food plants include various Acacia and Eucalyptus (including E. obliqua), Leptospermum and Prunus species.
