The Spot-Winged Glider is one of the two Rainpool Gliders in North America. The other one is the Wandering Glider. The Rainpool is a stronger flier but does not have the Wandering Glider's stamina for Global flight. The Rainpool is found from North America to Argentina and Chile, in S. America, plus islands in the Caribbean. The rounded brown basal spot in the lower part of the hind wing is diagnostic, though often hard to see. Adult males have red eyes.
