I planted it in a bed of white convallaria alongside the driveway in what I consider to be a protected location under a large hemlock. We had no particular expectations for it, however, since the instruction sheet said that the plant is a zone 6 shrub and we live in zone 5a. Imagine my surprise when it immediately began to grow. In succeeding years the plant has filled out nicely and bloomed every year. The foliage has turned a lovely blue-green color. Regarding special care: I top dress it at least once each year when I do my roses and give it a bucket of water weakly diluted with plant food at this time, but that's really about it. The shrub may look fragile, especially when the bark starts peeling, like a crepe myrtle, but it has become a lovely centerpiece of our garden on that side of the house. It's absolutely beautiful.

Mine started blooming in the end of June & bloomed for a month straight!! Very prolific bloomer with anywhere from 5 -12 blooms at a time...Read More.
Bees love it, so I wouldn't advise putting it close to a house. VERY hardy-when we 1st moved in to our housen we thought we had killed it (fell on it), and it just bounced right back and grows at a rapid pace-has to be trimmed twice a year.
Wouldn't get rid if it though, it's too pretty and adds the color when a lot of other things are done blooming:)
