I have spent at least a part of all 53 of my summers at a lake in Michigan. In the woods around the house grow Tiger lilies. My mother once said she thought the people who own it in the 30's and 40's must have planted them. I suspect this is the source of my interest in lilies, especially species lilies, (perhaps because I once thought the L. lancifolium at the Lake were "wild". 2008 was my first year really trying to grow lilies and I was pretty successful. Only the L. pardalinum and the L. superbum were blind stalks only.
