Taken on 4th June 2008, near Lincoln UK. The ventral tooth on the femora is visible most easily on the front legs.

Base colour is black including the legs, with green to blue-green scales, on legs as well, which show a gold to bronze glow according to lighting.

The antennae are dark beneath scales, which with age become worn off. There can be a bronze tinge at the base of antennae and sometimes at the tips.

The 'scrobe', or furrow into which the antennae fit the head, is straight in the genus Phyllobius, in the similar genus Polydrusus it is curved.

P. pomaceus at 7-9mm, just over 1/4", is larger than two similar UK species of Phyllobius, of which there are ten listed.

Found many feeding on nettle today most were blueish but a few had more green in their scales, Nature Reserve Bourgoyen, Gent, belgium 29th April 2009

No, it is not dead,lol!! It just pretends it is because it had noticed me, a minute later after it thought it was save it quickly scuried back on its legs and disapeared under the leaf..
